How can we ensure that European maritime expertise remains in Europe?

SAMK Maritime Logistics Research Center, together with its partners, is organizing a high-level maritime event on Tuesday, 27 October 2026 at Rauma Hall, Finland.

The event will bring together experts from the maritime industry, security sector, industrial ecosystem, education, and public administration to discuss the future of the maritime operating environment. Throughout the day, topics such as European maritime competitiveness, security of supply, safety and security, winter navigation, and the opportunities of smart shipping will be explored.

The maritime sector plays a significant role in the security of supply, economic resilience, and overall security of both Finland and Europe. A rapidly changing geopolitical environment, technological development, and challenges in workforce availability are prompting stakeholders to ask who will lead the future maritime world—and under what conditions European expertise can remain competitive in the years ahead.

The event will be hosted and moderated by sailor and Master of Science in Technology Tapio Lehtinen, who will also deliver an inspiring keynote speech on leadership, cooperation, responsibility, and the ability to operate in changing environments.

The programme will include expert presentations from national and international specialists in the maritime sector, security, and societal resilience. A more detailed programme and final speaker announcements will be published later.

Local cultural performances will also be featured, with appearances by the Rauma Youth Band and the Rauma Male Choir.

The event is organized by SAMK Maritime Logistics Research Center in cooperation with the City of Rauma, Rauma Marine Constructions, WinNova, the Rauma Chamber of Commerce and Seaside Campus.
